Gigantic, Walt Disney Animation Studios' new take on the classic tale of "Jack and the Beanstalk," has been delayed by about eight months, with a new release date announced Thursday. The film will now hit theaters on November 21, 2018, as its original release date of March 9, 2018 will now be occupied by Wreck-It Ralph 2.
Gigantic was announced at Disney's D23 Expo in August 2015, and is being directed by Tangled director Nathan Greno. The film will be a movie musical, with songs by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, the award-winners who wrote the songs for WDAS's mega-hit Frozen. The film takes place in Spain during the Age of Exploration, and sees Jack befriend an eleven year-old giant named Inma after finding her realm in the clouds, as seen in the first-look still above.
No cast has been announced for Gigantic yet, but with the talent attached in the music and direction slots, you can bet Walt Disney Animation Studios will recruit some big-name stars for the film.
Next up for WDAS is Moana, this November, a film about a Polynesian girl who goes on a journey of self-discovery alongside a demigod (voiced by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson). The just-announced Wreck-It Ralph 2 will follow in March 2018. Gigantic's November 2018 release date puts it three weeks after an as-yet-unannounced Disney Live-Action Fairy-Tale film.
