Earlier this year, we lamented the fact that with the loss of the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights, Disney’s Hollywood Studios was left with almost no holiday entertainment whatsoever for the 2016 season. However, it looks like this is no longer the case as Disney recently announced that Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular would be wrapping up its 2016 run in November in order to make way for a brand new nighttime spectacular just for the holidays.
The excitingly-titled Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM! is set to make its debut in just a few weeks at this park on November 14, 2016, and will definitely be unlike any other seasonal entertainment around the resort...
1. Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM! will feature plenty of favorite characters and holiday movie moments
This brand new show will feature a unique story that invites guests to embark on a festive adventure to get Santa Claus to the North Pole in time for Christmas Eve. And apparently, the route to the North Pole leads straight through some classic Disney films!
The show will be hosted by none other than Wayne and Lanny, from Prep & Landing fame and will use projections on the Great Movie Ride (in the same way Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular does now) to transport guests into classic scenes from beloved Disney films including Mickey’s Christmas Carol, Beauty and the Beast, Pluto’s Christmas Tree, Bambi, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and more, all while renditions of familiar Christmas songs performed with a unique twist play in the background.
Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM! will then close out with a special message from Santa Claus during a big finale, that will also include the return of a fan favorite element of the holiday season at Disney's Hollywood Studios that some had thought was lost forever...
2. "Snow" will fall once again this holiday season at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Though actual snow will never fall naturally at Walt Disney World thanks to Florida's warm weather, holiday visitors to the resort have enjoyed regular "snow" falling at both the Magic Kingdom during Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party and at Disney’s Hollywood Studios during the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights. However, even though the latter has been discontinued, Disney has confirmed that "snow" will once again fall at Disney's Hollywood Studios during the finale of Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM! every night this holiday season, which sounds like just the thing to get guests in a merry and festive spirit.
3. Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM! will be effects-heavy, with fireworks still off to the side
As mentioned previously, this new show will have a very similar format to the current Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular, with a heavy reliance on projection to transport guests inside the worlds of these classic films. However, this show will have more in common with its predecessor than just projection, as it will also be using extensive laser light effects as well as pyrotechnics during pivotal moments in the show. And again like with the current show, fireworks will be mostly limited to one side of the Great Movie Ride, meaning guests who want to get the best view of Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM! will definitely need to make sure they arrive early for this show so they can grab a strategic spot in the Center Stage area of the park that is close (but not too close) to the Great Movie Ride to ensure they can see the projections as well as the pyrotechnics with the clearest view possible.
4. A special The Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM! Holiday Dessert Party will be offered as well
As seems to always be the case with a nighttime spectacular at a Disney park, there will be an accompanying dessert party that guests can purchase tickets to that will include a number of goodies as well as guaranteed seating for the show. The Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM! Holiday Dessert Party will allow guests to nibble on a number of holiday themed treats and also includes a pair of 3D HoloSpex glasses to use while watching the show. These special glasses create spectacular holographic illusions of gingerbread men, candy canes, snowflakes and ornament bursts during the fireworks display.
Guests who want to take advantage of this extra option can make reservations now at 407-WDW-DINE (online registration is not yet available) and the cost is $69 for adults, and $39 for children, which includes all taxes and gratuities. Specifics like menu items and the location of the dessert party or the reserved viewing area have not been made available yet.
5. Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular will definitely be back in 2017
Though Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM! will be performed nightly from November 14th all the way through to the unofficial end of the holiday season on December 31, Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular will definitely be returning to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in January 2017 on at least a semi-regular basis (it is currently being performed only a few times a week on a seasonal schedule, but that could change next year). Some guests are hoping that when this show returns it will include additional footage inspired by the new Rogue One film (which will be released in theaters this December), but thus far Disney has not announced anything concrete about this possibility. However, no matter what happens, it looks like if you are a Star Wars fan, you’ll be able to catch this show again next year, which is definitely good news.
Are you excited for the new Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM! nighttime spectacular to debut this holiday season at Disney’s Hollywood Studios? Or are you still lamenting the loss of the classic Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights at this park?
